Iran- Azita Rafizadeh is an imprisoned Bahai citizen whose 6-year-old son has to live with another family due to the simultaneous arrest of her husband, Paiman Kooshkbaghi.
According to the report of Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), Azita Rafizadeh was born in 1980 in Shiraz. She finished the elementary and high school in Tonekabon, but like other young Bahais, she was deprived of going to university. For this reason she finished her bachelor degree in computer engineering in Bahai Institute of Higher Education (BIHE), which was designed and targeted young Bahais in order to enable them to continue their education.
After graduation, she got married with Mr. Kooshkbaghi, who was graduated in the same major in 2004. After 3 years of working as a computer engineer, she and her husband applied in a university in India for continuing their education, and received their bachelor degree and came back to Iran in 2008. With the intention of helping other young Bahais who had been deprived of higher education, they started to work in BIHE. Their son was born in December 2009. On May 2010, they were arrested by the intelligence service forces in their house, during an operation for arresting BIHE instructors and many CD, books, notes and also their PC and lap-top were confiscated.
On the next day she and her husband were summoned and interrogated. They were summoned to Moghadas court of Evin in January 2013. They were asked to guarantee that they would not work with the institute. They refused to sign such an agreement in the court and after putting a bail of 500 million IRR, they were released temporarily.
The primary court that was held in May 2014 by judge Moghiseh, sentenced Azita to 4 years in prison on charge of membership in an illegal Bahai institute with the intention of threatening the national security. This sentence was confirmed in the appeal court in January 2014. Paiman’s trial was also held by judge Moghiseh and he sentenced him with the same charge to 5 years in prison, in April 2015.
The appeal court confirmed this sentence, too. Azita Rafizadeh submitted herself to the prison after continuous calls from the authorities and threats to seizure the bail on October 25, 2015, in order to serve her 4 years imprisonment sentence and left her 6-year-old son with his father. But her husband, Paiman Kooshkbaghi was also arrested in front of the east door of Evin prison, when he went to visit her and was sent to ward number 8 of Evin prison. In the absence of his parents, Bashir is living with another family and is allowed to see his parents only 1 hour a week in Evin prison.
On October 6, 2016, Paiman Kooshkbaghi was illegally transferred to Rajaei Shahr prison, and after that the possibility of a visit for this family was lost. Despite the fact that this couple has the prosecutor’s and supervisor judge’s permissions to have visits every two weeks, but due to violation of the regulations by the head of Rajaei Shahr prison, and his insistence on transferring prisoners with prison uniform and shackles, their visits are being cancelled one by one and they had only 2 visits during past 3 months.
